Two Runners Headed to Cross Country Championships

Quaker standouts Andris Goncarovs ’14 and Chad Norton ’14 qualified for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships with their eight-kilometer finishes Saturday at the South/Southeast Regionals hosted by Emory University.
This is the first time the College has sent two runners to the NCAA Championships, which are Saturday, Nov. 17, in Terre Haute, Ind.
Andris finished third in the 160-man field at Nash Farm Battlefield Park when he crossed the finish line in 25 minutes, 46.53 seconds. The time represents his second best this season and the eighth best in Guilford history.
Chad took 11th place, finishing in 26 minutes, 23.84 seconds, his second-best time this season. David Cason ’14 also finished in the top 20 (26:47.09). David’s time represents his second-best finish of the season and third best of his career.
Andris, Chad and David earned All-South/Southeast Region Team recognition with their finishes. The men’s team placed 12th overall.
Among the women, Jasmine O’Neill ’15 paced the Quakers, completing the six-kilometer race in 25 minutes, 32.16 seconds. The time is her career best and eighth best in Guilford history. She placed 90th in the 184-woman field.
Rebecca Reyna ’16 ran 26:46.96, a career and season best, and Emily Cash ’15 finished in a season-best 28:2.10. The women’s team finished in 24th place overall.
