Gabby Oglesby Named Student-Athlete of the Week
November 29, 2012
Basketball standout Gabby Oglesby ’14 has earned her first Guilford Student-Athlete of the Week Award of the season Monday for her play last week against Averett University.
Gabby, a 6-0 forward, paced the Quakers in their 72-49 road win over Averett Nov. 20, scoring a game- and season-high 19 points. She tallied 12 points in the first-half to give Guilford a 29-22 halftime lead. She made eight-of-16 shots from the field and added six rebounds.
Through four games, she is tied for first on the team with 9.8 points per game with teammate Morgan King ’14. She ranks second on the squad with 6.2 rebounds along with Logan Hardin ’15.
Gabby also was featured in a Winston-Salem Chronicle story about student-athletes who are thriving at their respective colleges.
The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among the school’s student-athletes and non-student-athletes.
Recent SAAC activities include a canned-food drive and the promotion of Champs Life Skills, which promotes intercollegiate athletics as a key part of the campus educational program and the student-athlete as an integral part of the student body. Its aim is to increase student-athletes’ community involvement and to engage the greater Guilford community with the athletic department.
