Giving the Gift of a Gazebo, Class of 2013 Begins Fundraising
November 15, 2012
The students on the Senior Gift Committee have decided that this year’s gift will be a gazebo.
“I like the idea of a gazebo,” said Caroline Loftus ’13. “It reminds me of my earlier days at Guilford and the stories I’ve heard from alumni about the old Binford gazebo and how it was a popular meeting point for students.”
Students can give online at giving.guilford.edu/seniorgift2013. If 50 percent of the senior class donates, Dean of Students Aaron Fetrow has pledged to row to the middle of the Guilford lake, jump in and swim to shore.
“I thought that promise was a joke,” said Barbi Eubanks ’13. “I am probably going to give money to all my friends now to donate.”
But that’s far from the only reason to give.
“I think a gazebo is a great gift,” Barbi said. “There were more when I started at Guilford. I feel like I’m bringing some of the old Guilford back for the babies of 2016 to enjoy.”
While the gift has been determined, its location on the campus has not.
Students can give to any of of the school’s Annual Funds instead of the gift, and it will still count toward Aaron’s challenge.
“We will be doing regular tables in Founders Hall to give seniors the opportunity to donate,” said Annual Giving Associate Erin Mezgar. “We will also be holding events throughout the year.”
