Emily Currie, Pearls & Heels Featured on WGHP
February 08, 2013
WGHP Fox 8 recently broadcast a segment on Emily Currie ’14 and Pearls & Heels for Careers, an organization she started to help homeless women dress professionally for job interviews.
The Feb. 1 report is available on the station’s website.
A civic engagement course at Guilford and her own life experience provided the inspiration for Pearls & Heels. More than two decades ago, Emily lived for about six months at the Women’s Shelter in Charlotte.
“If women don’t have a decent outfit, how are they going to find a decent job?” she asks.
“This is something small, but it can make a big impact. Once you get a job, you can get an apartment and a car. This is something that can really change a person’s life.”
Emily and her project also were the focus of a story on the Guilford website in June 2012.
