Cline Observatory Hosts Open House Feb. 8

The Physics Department and Cline Observatory will host an astronomy program for children 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in the Frank Family Science Center .

There will be a planetarium presentation on the seasons, showcasing the stars currently visible. Weather permitting, there will be a viewing on the roof of the observatory after the presentation.

The observatory is named for Don Cline ’78, founder and president of the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute.

A native of Statesville, N.C., Don earned degrees in physics and mathematics from Guilford and an electrical engineering technology degree from N.C. State University. He worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories and Micro Computer Systems before founding PARI in the mountains of North Carolina.

Additional observatory events will be held March 10 and April 14.
