Africana CHANGE Hosts Youth Summit

On Dec. 1, the Africana CHANGE Program hosted its second annual youth summit, which had 26 attendees.

Led by Jada Drew ’07, interim director for educational initiatives & community partnerships and Africana Community coordinator, the program is raising funds for a trip to Brazil in May. It has raised about $13,000 thus far.

Jada also was interviewed Dec. 9 on WJMH 102.1 FM about Africana CHANGE.

Gabby Oglesby Named Student-Athlete of the Week

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has named Gabby Oglesby ’14 Student-Athlete of the Week for Dec. 3-9.

Gabby, who won the award for the second time this season, averaged 16.0 points, 14.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game in the Quakers’ 2-0 week. She led Guilford with 16 points and 14 rebounds in a home win over William Peace University Dec. 5.

She notched her 15th career double-double with 16 points and 15 boards, both game and season highs, in a Dec. 8 victory at Virginia Wesleyan College. She also contributed two blocks and two assists in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.

Coach Stephanie Flamini’s Quakers (7-2, 2-1 ODAC) return to action this weekend with nonconference road contests at Hood College on Saturday, Dec. 15, and Marymount (Va.) University on Sunday, Dec. 16. The team returns home to play league-rival Randolph-Macon College at 2 p.m. Jan. 5.
