Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to use GuilfordNet (intranet), which is the best place to locate information and important links that are relevant to the campus community.
GuilfordNet is essentially a separate, password-protected website for the use of current students, faculty and staff. The redesigned website is now geared to provide information to an external audience, so it does not include some of the day-to-day information that was found on the old website.
While there are links to GuilfordNet at the bottom of each page on www.guilford.edu, the easiest way to reach it is simply to navigate to intranet.guilford.edu and log in using your username and password.
What can I find on GuilfordNet?
Users should add intranet.guilford.edu to their browser’s Favorites or Bookmarks in order to access it more quickly each day.

An 18-month assessment of administrative departments at the College in 2011 and 2012 has been established by President KENT CHABOTAR, following the academic prioritization project now in the implementation phase. The vice presidents and deans endorsed the administrative assessment in the April 12 senior staff meeting.
The administrative assessment will be designed to foster process improvement, greater accountability for results, improved metrics for assessment, and enhanced efficiency. The goal is not to identify staff or budget reductions. However, should reallocation opportunities appear, they will be considered.
“Guilford College now tracks a host of performance measures for administrative services and the academic program,” President Chabotar commented, “but we also need to look at individual departments to assist them and the senior staff in providing the most effective services at the lowest reasonable cost to our students and others. This is also an opportunity for us to recognize best practices on our own campus and across higher education.”
It is expected that departments will be evaluated in terms of staffing, budget, and services provided — internally, historically, and comparatively. The process will include community meetings and openness regarding both criteria and results. Draft findings will be circulated for comment by affected departments and others.
A small task group co-chaired by Vice Presidents GREG BURSAVICH and JON VARNELL will guide the project. In addition to Finance and Administration, there will be one representative each from Academic Affairs, Advancement, Admission, and Student Affairs, as well as a faculty member and a student representative. The committee is to be formed by June 1. In President Chabotar’s view, “Asking Jon and Greg to co-chair the task group brings high-level administrative and financial perspectives to guide the work, and adding a faculty member and student as members will make the process more transparent and customer-focused.”
A consultant will be engaged to work with the College on the project. The consultant should be identified by August 1, and a more detailed timeline and criteria should then be available.
The goal is to complete the project and announce the results to the campus community by December 2012.

Earth Day will be celebrated with a screening of the documentary “Queen of the Sun: What are the Bees Telling Us?” Friday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Joseph Bryan Jr. Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.
The film, from the director of “The Real Dirt on Farmer John,” is an alternative look at Colony Collapse Disorder, where bees are disappearing in mass numbers from their hives with no clear explanation. Juxtaposing the catastrophic disappearance of bees with the mysterious world of the beehive, “Queen of the Sun” weaves an unusual and dramatic story of the heart-felt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world. Featuring Michael Pollan, Gunther Hauk and Vandana Shiva, the film explores both the problems and the solutions in renewing a culture in balance with nature.
A discussion will follow the screening. For more information, contact meekcj@guilford.edu.
Also on Friday afternoon, students have planned a recycled material sculpture contest sponsored by Political Activism Through Art, an
