Fall Break Residence Hall Closing Notice

Fall break will begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 15, and will continue until 9 a.m. Oct. 24. Residence halls will officially close during this break, although student athletes and students who have a distance to travel will be allowed to stay. PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU PLAN TO STAY ON CAMPUS AT ANY POINT DURING THIS BREAK (INCLUDING STUDENT ATHLETES), whether it’s in a residence hall, an apartment, or an alternative house, you must register with the Office for Campus Life. The registration deadline is 5 p.m. Oct. 14. The “Residence Hall Contract for Staying On-Campus during Guilford College Breaks” is available in the Office for Campus Life on the 2nd floor of Founders Hall. Students who stay on campus and fail to register by the deadline will be referred to the Guilford College judicial system and face removal from campus for the remainder of the fall break period. Please note: there will be no food service provided after 6 p.m. on Oct. 15 until 10:30 a.m. Oct. 24.

Because there will be a smaller number of students on campus during this break, our Campus Life staffing patterns will be slightly different than usual. As always, we need your assistance in maintaining a safe and secure environment by not propping open outside doors, closing and locking your room windows, reporting any strangers on your floor to the duty RA or Public Safety, and keeping your room door locked.

It is also suggested that you remove any valuables from your room. Although the college provides Public Safety coverage during break periods, it cannot assume any liability for loss or damage due to theft.

If you do leave for the break, please complete the following health and safety measures:

1. Clean up your room!!!
2. Make sure common areas (living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, etc.) in the suites and apartments are neat and in order.
3. Remove all perishable food items from your room.
4. Unplug all electrical cords with the exception of refrigerators and fish tanks, which may be left on during this break.
5. Close and lock room window(s).
6. Close drapes/pull blinds.
7. Empty all trash. Trash found outside of apartments and suites is the responsibility of the residents.
8. Turn out room lights and LOCK room/suite/apartment/house door(s).

During the break period, each residential area will be entered by college personnel to ensure compliance with health and safety standards as described in the Guilford College Student Handbook. Failure to comply with these standards will result in either confiscation of illegal items and/or fines and/or judicial follow-up. For further and helpful information, please read the Residence Hall Information and Regulations starting on page 39 of the Student Handbook.

If you have any question, please speak to your RA/Hall Director or contact the Office for Campus Life at ext. 2186. Thanks for your cooperation and have a great break!
